    Description

This small book (63 pages) lists all the coins minted at U. S Mints from 1876 through 1963.  The book's copyrights are dated 1964 and 1965.  The information was extracted from U. S. Mint reports.  There are illustrations for most of the types.
During the period covered, the Mints minted coins and blank planchets for 36 different countries, and minted a total of 7.1 BILLION coins and planchets.  Four Mints struck coins for foreign countries:  Philadelphia, Denver, San Francisco and New Orleans.
The appendix to the book lists coins minted by private mints in the USA for foreign governments.  (Franklin Mint did not mint coins for foreign governments until 1969, so no Franklin Mint issues are in this book.)
This book is a major reference for this specialty, and I use mine nearly every day.  I have used it to correct data in the Standard Catalogs of World Coins, and in the Numista catalog.
PCGS has established two Registry Sets for the coins listed in this book, one for coins issued from the government mints, and a separate one for the coins listed in the appendix.  PCGS has added ten coins to the Appendix Set, which are beyond the 27 coins documented in this book.
In addition, the book has detailed information on such topics as the survival rates of Hawaiian coins and coins issued for The Philippines under US control.  Many world coins struck at U. S. Mints do not have the traditional mintmarks on them--and some of them specifically have the mintmarks of foreign mints!  Many of the coins do not bear their dates of mintage--Congress did not permit the Mints to work for foreign governments until after U. S. coinage demand was met--and other coins were dated as requested by the foreign government.
About ten years ago, I was able to acquire a few of these from a numismatic bookseller that was downsizing to move.  The book is unused and as stiff as if it were not nearly 60 years old!
