Untitled DocumentVictorian Brown Silk Pleated Ruched Cane Drawn Shirred Bonnet Hat
This antique Victorian Civil War era brown silk pleated ruched cane drawn shirred bonnet hat dates from the 1860s. It is made of a stiffened buckram linen cloth, mesh net lining the inside, covered with a brown heavy silk grosgrain woven corded fabric and cane supports sewn into the channels with tiny tucks ruched gathers. This beautiful brown bonnet has long curving wired sides which come to a point at the bottom, a brown silk curtain cape box pleat ruffle flounce on the bottom back and brown silk taffeta ribbon ties for securing under the chin. The bonnet measures 10 inches tall, 8 inches wide across the front and is 6 1/2 inches deep. It is in excellent condition. This is truly a wonderful piece of early antique Victoriana wearable millinery art!
